Neymar Jr. isn’t just a talented football player – he’s also one of the few global superstars who successfully crossed over into the “hardcore gamer” world. Sometimes on stream, while playing Counter-Strike, he shows the same kind of magic that he used to show on the pitch.
But his Twitch isn’t just about games – it’s also a great source of quotes about football and players. And of course, he often takes time to show respect to his former teammate and seemingly best friend, Messi.
Most of these football quotes were taken directly from Neymar’s live broadcasts on Twitch (Neymarjr) or exclusive long-form stream interviews (like the ones with Casimiro or Gaules), where he tends to be the most candid.
Neymar about Messi as a “Cheat Code”
This happened during a casual stream where fans were comparing players. Neymar used a gaming metaphor.
“You guys keep comparing… but Messi is like a ‘cheat code’ in a videogame, you know? He does things that don’t make sense in physics. I saw it up close every day. He doesn’t play, he toys with the game.”
Neymar on Messi at PSG
In a 2023 stream interview with Casimiro Miguel (one of the biggest Twitch streamers), Neymar spoke about the whistles Messi received at PSG.
“I was very sad for what he went through in Paris. He went to heaven with Argentina, but in Paris, he lived through hell. We used to talk: ‘Leo, we are going to suffer here’. Anyone who whistles Messi doesn’t like football.”

The World Cup 2022 Reaction
Right after the final, Neymar did a short live stream where he expressed his relief for Messi.
“Football was fair to my friend. I wanted to be there winning, obviously, but seeing the ‘shorty’ with the trophy took a weight off my shoulders too. He deserved it so much.”

Neymar about Messi in daily chatting
“The MSN trio (Messi, Suarez, Neymar) group chat still exists, yes. We chat every day. Messi is the calmest one, but when he sends a video or a joke, everyone cracks up. It’s real friendship — the rest is just gossip.”

P.S.
Neymar officially pivoted to “serious” streaming in October 2020. While he had been a fan of gaming for years, he signed an exclusive streaming deal with Twitch during the pandemic. His debut was a massive event, pulling in over 250,000 concurrent viewers as he played Counter-Strike and Among Us.
Neymar’s favorite games: Counter-Strike 2 (his “main” game), PUBG: Battlegrounds, Call of Duty: Warzone, and EA Sports FC (formerly FIFA).
