Another player who confirms my main point is Wayne Rooney – God doesn’t play football, but you do.
Rooney represents that “old school” football mentality: passion, hard training, and pure love for the game. We remember that generation mainly for what they showed on the pitch, but we didn’t always know much about their personal side.
Hopefully, we can still go back to the archives and find something interesting.
Like what? Like this:
“I pray to God, of course. I believe in God… I don’t pray for us to win. I pray for the health of me and everyone on the pitch. It’s something I’ve always done.”

The Times / Interview for ‘Rooney’ Documentary
“I don’t pray for us to win” – a strong point, because when you’re on the pitch alongside players like Cristiano Ronaldo on the wing, you already have the skills to decide the game. You have 90 minutes to make it happen. Don’t waste time – stop praying and start playing.
Quotes like these also show that football is more about family, where every player thinks not only about their own journey but also about their teammates.
Thank you Wayne Rooney!
