There is nothing weird here like, “It wasn’t me or my fault – it was just God’s decision.” Instead, you can see belief in God as something personal and connected to the understanding of reality: you do your best, and if you fail, you simply try again.
Secondly, one of the reasons why I like this football quote is that Javier Chicharito also shows respect for everyone else on the pitch when he says, “I am asking for protection for all players.” That shows the size of his heart.
Thirdly, I think he is a genius because he is praying not only for his own health and safety on the field, but also for every player currently on the pitch. That is what makes the difference.
