Maurizio Sarri is probably the most interesting man in Serie A and maybe in the whole football world right now. Despite his strong tactical passion, he also seems to understand marketing pretty well (I guess) and is genuinely passionate about sports in general.
This latest Sarri quote about Serie A proves how unique this tactical genius is – just read it:
“If they want to play the Rome derby at midday on a Sunday, I’m not coming. They can do it themselves. If I was President of Lazio, I wouldn’t even show up with the squad on Sunday. It makes no difference to us either way, we’ll lose points penalties, I wouldn’t go”

Do you know what the Rome derby (the Derby della Capitale) is? Like every derby, it is hot as hell because emotions run high, fireworks go off, local clashes happen between fans and players, and playing in that atmosphere at midday is a football crime. So I do agree with Sarri here. This decision has no logic, and it shows no respect for either team or their fans.
It is also very interesting how Sarri explained why this Serie A decision is wrong:
“This is a series of errors made by the Lega Serie A, they organised the Turin Derby around the ATP tennis finals in Turin, then the Rome Derby when the Italian Open is on in Rome. These were their mistakes and I agree with the local authorities”
I believe that if Sarri ever ends his coaching career, he could become a great commercial manager in sports because he understands this niche pretty well.
