The one-club man who spent 24 years at a single club speaking about modern football:
“I started out in different times. A different football. A football made of love, of affection toward fans. Playing for the team I always supported, it was a lot easier for me to make this choice. But to make a comparison between my time and today, it’s difficult. Today it’s more business. You go where you can make more money.
And that’s fair enough, no?”
Francesco Totti on modern football today // 2021

Yes, It is fair enough.
But is it fair enough that we football fans are now financing all those transfers and players’ salaries, while they often have little or no connection to our club’s history and traditions?
This is why I see the role of old-school players and club legends not in defending modern footballers’ right to earn money whenever they want, but in defending the club’s interests and its fans.
And this is why I don’t understand why AS Roma is still not involving Francesco Totti in its current board.
